Why Pedestrian Crashes at Night Can Be More Severe
Pedestrian crashes that occur at night carry a higher risk of serious injury due to reduced visibility and limited reaction time for drivers. Street lighting, roadway design, and pedestrian visibility can all influence how quickly a driver is able to detect someone in the roadway.
Investigators typically review roadway conditions, vehicle speed, lighting, and driver behavior to better understand how these incidents occur. Even when drivers remain on scene, determining the sequence of events usually requires careful examination of physical evidence and witness accounts.
