Why Hit-and-Run Crashes Can Make Investigations More Challenging
Hit-and-run crashes can require investigators to gather information from multiple sources, as the driver may flee before officials arrive. Evidence from the scene, vehicle damage, surveillance footage, and witness accounts may help investigators identify what happened.
Leaving after a crash can also delay emergency assistance for injured people and make it harder to determine the full circumstances of an incident. Drivers involved in collisions are expected to stop, provide information, and assist when someone may need help. Reporting a crash quickly can help emergency responders reach those affected and support the investigation process.
