Why Serious Pedestrian Injuries Frequently Require Air Medical Transport
Pedestrian crashes can lead to severe injuries because the human body has little protection during contact with a moving vehicle. Leg injuries are especially common and may include fractures, joint damage, or other trauma that requires specialized treatment.
In more serious situations, medical helicopters may be used to quickly move patients to trauma centers equipped for advanced care. Air transport is usually requested when faster treatment could improve recovery outcomes or when local hospitals may not provide the level of care needed.
After a pedestrian crash, investigators frequently review roadway lighting, traffic flow, and the position of the people involved. Crosswalk placement, visibility, and vehicle speed can also become important factors while reconstructing how the collision occurred.
