What Happens After a Pedestrian Hit-and-Run Is Reported?
When a pedestrian is struck in a hit-and-run, investigators typically begin by gathering witness statements and reviewing any available surveillance or traffic camera footage. Physical evidence left on the roadway, such as vehicle debris or tire marks, may also help determine what happened and identify the vehicle involved.
Medical records can help document the extent of a person’s injuries while investigators continue collecting evidence. If witnesses saw the vehicle, details such as its size, color, company markings, or direction of travel may assist in narrowing the search. As additional information becomes available, investigators may issue updates that clarify the sequence of events and help locate the driver.
