Why Crosswalk Hit-and-Run Crashes Can Be Difficult to Solve
Hit-and-run crashes involving pedestrians often require investigators to gather information from several sources. Surveillance cameras, witness statements, and vehicle descriptions can all help establish what happened and identify a vehicle involved.
Crosswalks are designed to provide pedestrians with a designated place to cross the street, but collisions can still occur when drivers fail to yield or do not see someone entering the roadway. Vehicle damage, debris, and roadway evidence may provide additional clues during a review.
Temporary license plates can sometimes make identification more challenging, especially when limited information is available immediately after a crash. As more evidence is collected, a clearer picture of the circumstances can emerge.
