Why Can Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Crashes Be Difficult to Solve?
Hit-and-run pedestrian crashes often present unique challenges because the driver leaves before providing identifying information. As a result, investigators frequently rely on witness statements, surveillance footage, vehicle debris, and physical evidence gathered from the roadway.
The amount of information available can vary widely depending on the time of day, traffic levels, and the presence of nearby cameras. In some cases, witnesses may only recall a vehicle’s color or general type, while video footage may help narrow the search further. Investigators may also examine damage patterns and review traffic camera recordings from nearby intersections. These methods can help establish a timeline and identify the vehicle involved. The process can take time, particularly when limited details are available during the early stages of an investigation.
