Lady Lake, FL (June 16, 2026) – A pedestrian lost his life after being struck by two vehicles early on Tuesday morning on U.S. Highway 27 in Lady Lake, with one of the drivers fleeing the scene.

According to the Lady Lake Police Department, the fatal crash occurred at approximately 3:26 a.m. in the southbound lanes of U.S. Highway 27 near Hartsock Sawmill Road.

Preliminary findings indicate that a woman driving a Toyota Tacoma was traveling southbound when she observed a man standing in the middle of the roadway in a dark area. The driver told investigators she was traveling between 50 and 55 mph when she noticed the pedestrian and was unable to avoid a collision.

The police said the Tacoma struck the man, and the driver immediately stopped and remained at the scene. Moments later, a second vehicle also struck the pedestrian. Authorities reported that the driver of the second vehicle failed to stop and continued from the scene without rendering aid or reporting the crash.

The pedestrian suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead. His identity has not yet been released.

Investigators are actively seeking information regarding the second vehicle involved in the collision. Anyone who witnessed the crash or has information that may help identify the fleeing driver is encouraged to contact the Lady Lake Police Department at 352-751-1560 or Central Florida Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS. The crash remains under investigation.

Our deepest condolences go out to the family, friends, and loved ones of the victim.

Why Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Crashes Require Public Assistance?

Hit-and-run collisions can be particularly challenging for investigators because one of the involved drivers leaves before authorities arrive. In these cases, law enforcement relies on witness statements, surveillance footage, vehicle debris, and tips from the public to identify the fleeing vehicle and driver.

Pedestrian crashes occurring during overnight or early morning hours can present additional investigative challenges due to reduced visibility and fewer witnesses. Investigators typically examine roadway lighting conditions, vehicle evidence, and the movements of everyone involved to determine how the collision occurred.

Public cooperation frequently plays an important role in solving hit-and-run cases. Even seemingly minor details from witnesses can help investigators identify a suspect vehicle and bring accountability to those responsible.
