Norfolk, VA (September 9, 2026) – A 39-year-old Norfolk man suffered life-threatening injuries Monday, September 7, after a motorcycle and pedestrian were involved in an accident on E Little Creek Rd.
The accident happened at approximately 10 p.m. in the 500 block of E Little Creek Rd. The motorcycle operator, a 25-year-old Chesapeake woman, was also taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
A preliminary review indicated that neither speed nor alcohol contributed to the accident. It also found that the pedestrian attempted to cross the roadway without using a crosswalk.
The investigation remains active as the circumstances are reviewed. We are keeping both people injured in the accident in our thoughts as they recover.
How Can Pedestrians and Motorcyclists Stay Safer at Night?
Crossing a roadway at night can be more difficult because drivers and riders have less time to see people entering their path. Using a marked crosswalk can give pedestrians a designated place to cross and make their movements more predictable to approaching traffic.
Visibility is especially important after dark. Pedestrians can improve their visibility by wearing reflective clothing or carrying a light when walking near traffic. Motorcyclists can also increase their visibility by using headlights and remaining alert for people who may be crossing.
Drivers and riders should watch carefully near intersections, crosswalks, and areas where people commonly walk. Reducing speed when visibility is limited can provide more time to recognize a pedestrian and react safely. Staying attentive on both sides of the roadway can help reduce the risk of serious pedestrian accidents.
