What Risks Exist for People Working Near Residential Roadways?
People performing outdoor tasks near streets, including mowing lawns, landscaping, or maintenance work, can face risks from passing traffic. Residential roads often have vehicles entering and exiting driveways, parked cars that limit visibility, and changing traffic patterns throughout the day.
Drivers may encounter unexpected obstacles or people working close to the edge of the roadway. At the same time, those performing outdoor work may be focused on equipment or tasks, reducing their awareness of approaching traffic. These factors can increase the likelihood that a pedestrian will be struck.
After a pedestrian-related roadway accident, investigators commonly review vehicle movements, sightlines, roadway conditions, and the positions of all involved parties. Such information helps establish how the contact occurred and provides a clearer understanding of the factors that contributed to the injuries reported.
