What Are the Risks of Golf Cart Accidents in Pedestrian Areas?
Golf carts may seem like low-risk vehicles, but they can cause serious harm to pedestrians, especially in crowded or mixed-use areas like shopping districts and resort villages. They lack the safety features found in standard passenger vehicles: no airbags, minimal structural protection, and often no seatbelts, which means both occupants and anyone struck by the cart are highly exposed in a collision.
Speed and driver behavior are key factors in golf cart accidents. Even at relatively low speeds, a cart striking a pedestrian can result in broken bones, head injuries, or worse, particularly for older adults or children. When golf carts are operated in areas shared with foot traffic, the potential for serious harm rises significantly if the driver is distracted, impaired, or moving faster than conditions allow.
