Frequently Asked Questions
What injuries are commonly seen in crashes between cars and large trucks?
Occupants of the smaller vehicle often suffer head, neck, chest, and limb injuries from the impact, and extrication can add time before treatment begins. Even survivable crashes can leave lasting injuries that aren't apparent right away.
What typically causes these kinds of collisions?
Common factors include one driver failing to yield at an intersection, misjudging the other vehicle's speed, or a lapse in attention at a critical moment. Weather and visibility can also play a role.
Does speed change how severe a crash turns out to be?
Yes. Higher speeds give drivers less time to react and increase the force involved when vehicles collide, which tends to mean more serious damage and injury.
Why does distracted driving matter so much in these situations?
A few seconds looking away from the road, at a phone or elsewhere, is often enough time to miss a stop sign, a light change, or a vehicle entering an intersection.
What to Do After a Car and Semi Crash in Peoria, IL
If you're involved in a crash with a commercial truck, call 911 right away and stay as still as possible until emergency crews arrive, especially if you're pinned or trapped. Even if you feel okay, get checked by a medical provider, since injuries from a high-impact collision aren't always obvious at the scene. Once you're safe, write down what you remember, including the time, location, and anything you noticed about the other vehicle, while the details are still fresh. If police respond, ask how to get a copy of the crash report for your records.
