What Makes Vehicle Fires After Crashes Especially Dangerous?
A vehicle fire can develop rapidly after a serious crash, particularly when fuel or other flammable materials are released. Occupants may face smoke, heat, and limited time to exit a damaged vehicle.
Drivers should leave the vehicle immediately when conditions make remaining inside unsafe, provided they can do so without exposing themselves to additional hazards. People outside the vehicle should avoid entering burning or heavily damaged vehicles unless no safer option exists.
Motorists should also move away from burning vehicles and avoid standing near traffic lanes. Emergency personnel should handle fire suppression and vehicle removal whenever possible.
