Pettis, MO (January 16, 2026) – Two women were injured in a serious head-on collision on Thursday evening on US 50 in Pettis County, just east of Muddy Creek.
Authorities say the crash occurred around 7:10 p.m. when a 2023 Jeep Cherokee, driven by a 27-year-old Sedalia woman, was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of US 50. The vehicle collided head-on with a westbound 2013 Chevrolet Suburban driven by a 69-year-old woman from Alma.
Emergency crews arrived quickly and found both vehicles with extensive damage. The younger driver sustained serious injuries and was airlifted from the scene by MU Air Medical Services to University Hospital in Columbia. She was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Her vehicle was totaled and removed from the scene by InMotion Towing.
The driver of the Suburban, who was properly restrained, suffered minor injuries and was taken by Pettis County Ambulance District to Bothwell Regional Health Center. Her vehicle also sustained total damage and was towed by Don’s Towing.
Investigators reported that the Jeep left the road following the collision, coming to rest facing north off the right side. The Suburban came to rest on the highway, also facing north. Missouri State Highway Patrol Corporal C.D. Parrott is leading the investigation, with assistance from Trooper T.D. Jackson and the Pettis County Sheriff’s Office.
