Frequently Asked Questions
What should a pedestrian or rider do after being hit by a vehicle?
Seek medical care right away, even if injuries seem minor, and try to get the names of any witnesses and the responding officers. A formal police report will matter later for insurance and any investigation.
Who has the right of way at an intersection like this one?
Generally, a driver turning left must yield to oncoming traffic and crossing pedestrians or riders with the right of way, but right-of-way rules can shift depending on signals, signs, and the specific movements involved. Investigators determine fault based on the physical evidence and witness accounts.
How can drivers watch for pedestrians, cyclists, and others sharing the road?
Slowing down before and during turns, checking mirrors and blind spots twice, and avoiding distractions in intersections gives drivers more time to spot someone crossing or approaching unexpectedly.
What injuries commonly result from these kinds of collisions?
Facial injuries, broken bones, and leg or hip trauma are common when someone is thrown from a bike or struck directly by a vehicle, since there is little to absorb the impact.
