Frequently Asked Questions
Are pedestrians more likely to be hit at night?
Reduced visibility after dark makes it harder for drivers to see people crossing the street, and a large share of pedestrian deaths happen at night or in low-light conditions.
What should a pedestrian do after being struck by a vehicle?
Call 911 right away if possible, try not to move if injured, and make sure to get checked by medical personnel even if injuries seem minor, since some symptoms appear later.
Who has the right of way at a crosswalk?
Pedestrians generally have the right of way in marked and unmarked crosswalks, but drivers and walkers both need to watch for each other, especially at intersections without signals.
What should drivers do if they're involved in a crash with a pedestrian?
Stop immediately, call for emergency help, and stay at the scene. Leaving the scene of a crash involving injury is a crime in Pennsylvania and in most states.
