Frequently Asked Questions
Can one crash trigger others nearby?
Yes. When a crash blocks lanes or sends vehicles into unexpected paths, drivers arriving on scene can have little time to react, which sometimes leads to additional impacts before the roadway is cleared.
Why are multi-vehicle crashes harder to investigate than single-car wrecks?
Investigators usually need to determine the sequence of impacts, not just the point of initial contact, which means reviewing damage patterns, witness accounts and sometimes vehicle data from each car involved.
What typically causes pile-ups at intersections?
Common factors include one driver failing to stop or yield, sudden braking, limited visibility or wet roads, though the specific cause in any case is determined by the investigating agency, not assumed beforehand.
Were you hurt in a crash like this?
