The driver of the pickup had to be removed from the wreckage before being taken to a local hospital in critical condition. Surveillance footage reportedly showed the pickup traveling southbound on 71st Ave and running a stop sign before the crash occurred.
Authorities believe impairment may have contributed to the collision. Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as soon as they become available. We are thinking of those injured as they receive medical care.
What Happens When Vehicles Collide With Large Trucks at Intersections?
Crashes involving smaller vehicles and semi-trucks can lead to severe damage due to the size and weight difference. When a smaller vehicle strikes a truck, it may become trapped underneath, increasing the risk of serious harm.
Intersections can be especially dangerous when drivers fail to stop or yield. A missed stop sign or delayed reaction can result in a direct impact with cross traffic, often at higher speeds.
Visibility and timing also play a role. Large trucks require more time to slow down or stop, making it difficult to avoid a crash when another vehicle enters the intersection unexpectedly.
