San Antonio, TX (August 19, 2026) – A man was hospitalized on Wednesday morning, August 19, after a pickup truck struck him at a West Side intersection. The collision happened around 6:45 a.m. at South Acme Rd and Old Hwy 90.

According to a preliminary report, the man was trying to cross the southeast side of the intersection as the pickup truck traveled west on Old Hwy 90. He is believed to be in his 30s and was unconscious but breathing when emergency units took him to a hospital.

The pickup truck driver stayed at the intersection and assisted the man after the accident. Police said the pedestrian may have tried to cross when he did not have the right of way and was not paying attention.

Traffic was being redirected away from the intersection while the area was cleared. The investigation into what led to the crash remains ongoing.

Our thoughts are with the man as he recovers from his injuries.

What Should Pedestrians Know About Crossing Busy Intersections?

Pedestrians face greater risks when crossing roads with heavy traffic, especially where vehicles are traveling at higher speeds. Using a marked crosswalk and waiting for a walk signal can give drivers more time to see someone crossing.

Pedestrians should check for approaching vehicles before entering a crosswalk, even when they have the right of way. Looking left, right, and left again can help identify vehicles that may be turning or approaching unexpectedly. Staying alert and avoiding distractions, such as phones, can also reduce the risk of injury.

Drivers should watch carefully for people crossing at intersections and yield when required. Extra caution is helpful during early morning hours, when visibility may be reduced, and traffic conditions can change quickly.
