What Makes Head-On Collisions Particularly Dangerous on Rural Roads?
Head-on crashes often result in severe outcomes because both vehicles are moving toward each other at the time of impact. This increases the force involved compared to other types of collisions.
On rural roads, factors such as narrow lanes, limited lighting, and curves can raise the risk of vehicles crossing into oncoming traffic. Drivers may also travel at higher speeds, leaving less time to react.
Distractions, fatigue, or impaired driving can contribute to a vehicle drifting across the center line. Without physical barriers separating directions of travel, the chance of a direct collision increases, often leading to serious or fatal injuries.
