Platte Co, MO (January 27, 2026) – A serious two-vehicle collision occurred early Tuesday morning on northbound Interstate 29 near the 11.8-mile marker, sending one woman to the hospital with significant injuries.
The accident took place at approximately 1:07 a.m. when a 2016 Chevrolet Sonic, driven by a 53-year-old man from Kansas City, MO, began skidding on the roadway. The vehicle veered off to the right and crashed into a concrete barrier. As it came to a stop, a 2012 Jeep Liberty traveling in the same direction collided with the driver’s side of the Sonic. The Jeep, operated by a 29-year-old Kansas City, KS man, ultimately came to rest nearly 260 feet beyond the point of impact.
Emergency personnel from the Kansas City Fire Department responded swiftly to the scene. A 28-year-old female passenger in the Chevrolet suffered serious injuries and was not wearing a safety device at the time of the collision. She was transported to North Kansas City Hospital for emergency treatment.
Both vehicles sustained total damage and were towed from the scene by Express Towing. Authorities from Troop A and the Platte County Sheriff’s Department assisted with the investigation and traffic control. Road conditions and early-morning visibility may have been contributing factors, though the incident remains under official review.
Our thoughts are with the injured woman and all involved, with hopes for a full and swift recovery.
