What Can Lead to Crashes at Rural Highway Intersections?
Crashes at rural highway intersections often happen when drivers fail to stop or misjudge traffic conditions. Stop signs and warning markers are placed to control movement, but early morning hours can reduce visibility and awareness. Fatigue or unfamiliarity with the area may also affect driver response times.
Construction zones can add another layer of risk. Barriers, equipment, and changes in road layout may limit space and require extra attention. Drivers approaching these areas must slow down and follow posted signs to avoid hazards.
When a vehicle strikes fixed objects like concrete barriers, the force of impact can be severe. These types of crashes often result in serious injuries due to the sudden stop and lack of movement compared to vehicle-to-vehicle collisions.
