Frequently Asked Questions
How can drivers safely share the road with large trucks?
Give trucks extra space, avoid lingering in blind spots alongside or behind the trailer, and never cut in front of one, since trucks take much longer to slow down or stop than passenger vehicles.
Does driver fatigue play a role in truck crashes?
Yes. Long hours behind the wheel can slow a driver's reaction time, and fatigue is a recognized factor in a number of commercial truck crashes investigated nationwide.
Why do trucks need so much distance to stop?
Their size and loaded weight mean trucks require significantly more stopping distance than cars, especially at highway speeds, which is why sudden lane changes or stops in front of one can be dangerous.
