Philadelphia, PA (September 5, 2026) – A 48-year-old postal worker was critically injured after a vehicle struck him on the 4300 block of Ashburner Street at about 2:38 p.m. on Thursday, September 3.
The worker was standing behind a postal vehicle and collecting mail when a westbound vehicle struck him. The same vehicle then continued forward and collided with the postal vehicle, pushing it onto the sidewalk and into a fence.
The employee suffered a severe leg injury and facial injuries. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was listed in critical condition. Investigators continue reviewing the accident.

Workers who routinely stop along neighborhood streets may spend time beside or behind parked vehicles while completing their duties. Their position can place them close to moving traffic without the protection available to someone inside a vehicle.
