Premont, TX (January 22, 2026) – A tragic crash just outside the Premont city limits has claimed the life of a 37-year-old local man who was struck by a pickup truck last Friday night.
The incident occurred at approximately 8:35 p.m. on January 16 along Business 281, where a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado was heading southbound in the inside lane. According to Texas Department of Public Safety troopers, the pedestrian was crossing the roadway from east to west when he was hit by the front right side of the truck.
The driver stopped immediately after the collision and contacted emergency services. First responders with Allegiance EMS transported the victim, identified as Rudy Davila of Premont, to Christus Spohn Hospital in Alice. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was later airlifted by Halo Flight to Christus Spohn Shoreline in Corpus Christi.
Despite intensive medical efforts, Davila succumbed to his injuries the following day.
Troopers with the Highway Patrol Office in Alice are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash. No further details regarding citations or contributing factors have been released at this time.
