Frequently Asked Questions
What usually causes rear-end collisions?
They usually happen when a driver follows too closely, is distracted, or doesn't brake in time to react to slowing or stopped traffic ahead.
How does following distance help prevent these crashes?
Keeping several seconds of space between vehicles gives a driver more time to react if the car ahead slows suddenly, which cuts down on rear-end impacts.
Why does distraction play such a large role in rear-end accidents?
Even a glance away from the road, at a phone or another distraction, can delay braking long enough for a driver to strike the vehicle in front.
What injuries commonly result from rear-end crashes?
Neck and back injuries, including strains and aggravation of existing conditions, are common, along with soreness, whiplash, and occasionally more serious trauma depending on speed and impact.
What to Do After a Rear-End Crash in Prince Frederick, MD
After a rear-end crash, move to a safe spot if possible and check yourself and any passengers for injuries. Even if pain doesn't show up right away, it's worth getting checked by a medical professional, especially for anyone with an existing back or neck condition. Call for police and medical help, exchange information with the other driver, and take photos of the vehicles and the scene if you're able. Keep records of any medical visits and follow-up care, since symptoms from a rear-end impact can take time to appear. Report the crash to your insurance provider as soon as it's practical to do so.
