QUEEN ANNE, Talbot County, Md., Sept. 27, 2026 — A police chief from a nearby Caroline County town died on Friday morning, September 25, in a three-vehicle crash on Maryland Route 331 near Dover Neck Road. A delivery truck driver was hospitalized with unspecified injuries.
The crash happened around 11:30 a.m. when a delivery van heading west crossed the center line for reasons that have not been determined, according to a Maryland State Police news release. The van reportedly clipped a pickup truck traveling in the opposite direction before hitting a Chevrolet Tahoe head-on.
The Tahoe's driver, identified by officials as Denton Police Chief George William Bacorn Jr., 62, was pronounced dead at the scene. The van's driver, 31, of Salisbury, was flown to a trauma center by the state police aviation unit. The pickup truck's driver was not hurt and has not been identified.
The crash team for the Maryland State Police is investigating and will determine later whether charges are warranted, the release said. Roads near the intersection stayed closed for more than three hours while crews worked the scene.
