Hutchinson, KS (August 30, 2026) – A motorcyclist lost their life on Friday morning, August 28, in a crash involving a motorcycle and van on US-50 near Salem Road in Reno County. The collision happened around 11:42 a.m. west of Hutchinson.
Deputies responding to the scene found a man deceased near a three-wheeled motorcycle. A passenger van with rear-end damage was also found in the westbound lanes. The Reno County Sheriff’s Office said the van had stopped while waiting for a westbound semi-truck preparing to turn south from US-50. The motorcycle then struck the rear of the van at a high rate of speed, according to the preliminary investigation.
Two people inside the van were treated at the scene and released. The motorcyclist’s identity was being withheld pending notification of next of kin. US-50 was reduced to one lane during the investigation before reopening. The incident remains under investigation by troopers.
