Fargo, ND (May 22, 2026) – Three people were seriously hurt late on Thursday, May 21, after a driver ran a red light at a Fargo intersection.
The accident happened at about 11:45 p.m. at 42nd Street South and 52nd Avenue South. A 2009 Chevrolet Impala was traveling south on 42nd Street South at about 45 miles per hour when it entered the intersection against the signal.
The Impala struck the driver’s side of a westbound 2024 Chevrolet Equinox. The Equinox then left the road and overturned. After the first contact, the Impala rotated and was rear-ended by a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
A 21-year-old Fargo man driving the Impala and his 19-year-old Grand Forks passenger had serious injuries. The 41-year-old woman driving the Equinox was also seriously injured, while the 53-year-old woman driving the Jeep had minor injuries.
All occupants were taken to Essentia Health. The Impala driver faces several charges, including driving under the influence and criminal vehicular injury; still, the wreck remains under investigation.
We hope everyone injured receives the care they need during recovery.
Why T-Bone Accidents at Intersections Can Be Severe
T-bone accidents can cause serious harm because one vehicle hits the side of another, where there is frequently less protection than the front or rear. The force may push a vehicle sideways, off the road, or into a rollover. People inside may be hurt by doors, windows, seat belts, or airbags.
Intersections can also become dangerous when drivers enter against a traffic signal. Other drivers may already be crossing with the right of way and have little time to avoid contact. Nighttime driving can add more risk, even at lit intersections, because speed and distance might be harder to judge. After this type of roadway emergency, medical teams usually check for head, chest, back, hip, and limb trauma. Seat belt use, vehicle speed, signal timing, and final vehicle positions can help explain why injuries were severe.
