Tuscaloosa, AL (June 23, 2026) – Emergency units responded to the scene of a fatal accident at approximately 12:30 a.m. on Monday, June 22, after receiving reports of a single-vehicle crash about one mile north of Tuscaloosa.
Two Tuscaloosa residents lost their lives, and another person was injured in the rollover crash on Crescent Ridge Road NE near Ninth Street. Preliminary findings indicate a Nissan Maxima left the roadway, struck a guy wire, became airborne, and overturned.
Authorities identified the victims as George L. Porter III, 19, and Latayia Necole Furr Prewitt, 22, both of Tuscaloosa. The two passengers suffered fatal injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Nissan, Eric L. Hayes Jr., 20, of Bessemer, sustained injuries in the crash and was transported to DCH Regional Medical Center for treatment. Officials have not released the severity of his injuries, but they continue to investigate the cause of the crash.
