Frequently Asked Questions
What causes a vehicle to roll over?
Rollovers often happen when a vehicle's tires lose grip and it skids sideways, then catches on a curb, soft shoulder, or another object, tipping the vehicle onto its side or roof. A sudden impact from another vehicle can also trigger one.
Why are rollover crashes dangerous?
The vehicle can turn over multiple times, and occupants risk being thrown against the roof, doors, or windows, especially if they aren't belted in. Roof damage can also make it harder for people to get out on their own.
Which vehicles tend to roll over more often?
Taller, narrower vehicles with a higher center of gravity, like SUVs, pickups, and vans, are more likely to roll over than low, wide passenger cars.
Does wearing a seat belt matter in a rollover?
Yes. A seat belt keeps an occupant in place as the vehicle turns, lowering the chance of being ejected or thrown around the cabin, which is one of the most common causes of serious injury in these crashes.
What to Do After a Rollover Crash in Rhome, TX
If you're involved in a rollover, try to stay as still as possible until you can assess whether you're hurt, then check on any passengers before attempting to move. If the vehicle is stable and it's safe to do so, get clear of the roadway and call 911. Even if injuries seem minor at first, see a doctor within a day or two, since impacts to the head, neck, and spine don't always show symptoms right away. Make sure to keep any paperwork from the responding agencies and the hospital, and follow up with your insurer once you've been medically evaluated.
