RICHFIELD, Sevier County, Utah, Oct. 28, 2026 — A 14 year old pedestrian was hurt Monday morning, October 26, after reportedly being struck by a car at the intersection of SR 119 and Black Knolls Road in Richfield, Utah. The Sevier County Sheriff's Office said the crash happened around 7:20 a.m. as the teen was crossing the highway to reach a school bus stop.
According to the sheriff's office, a westbound passenger car driven by a 16 year old struck the pedestrian in heavy fog and darkness. The driver reportedly did not see the teen crossing until the pedestrian was in the middle of the road, then swerved left to avoid a collision. That maneuver sent the car across the center line and off the left side of the roadway. The vehicle's passenger side reportedly sideswiped the pedestrian before the driver could fully avoid impact. Authorities said the driver was not exceeding the posted speed limit.
Sevier County deputies, EMS crews, Utah Highway Patrol troopers, and Richfield City Police all responded to the scene, the sheriff's office said. The injured teen was conscious and was first taken to Sevier Valley Hospital, then transferred to Primary Children's Hospital for further treatment. The teen's current condition has not been released.
The Sevier School District has reportedly been in contact with investigators and is reviewing bus stop locations near the intersection to determine whether safer routing is possible. No additional details on the investigation's status have been made public.
We hope those who were hurt recover fully and quickly.

Frequently Asked Questions
What usually causes pedestrian accidents?
Limited visibility, driver inattention, and pedestrians crossing outside marked crosswalks are common factors. Weather conditions like fog or darkness, as seen in this case, can make it harder for drivers to see people in or near the roadway.
How does a vehicle's speed affect a pedestrian's chances of survival?
Lower speeds give drivers more time to react and reduce the force of impact if a collision happens. Even a modest reduction in speed can mean the difference between a survivable injury and a fatal one.
Are pedestrian accidents more likely to happen at night or in poor visibility?
Yes. Reduced light and conditions like fog or rain make it harder for drivers to spot pedestrians in time to stop or swerve, which is part of why early morning and nighttime hours see a higher share of these crashes.
What to Do After a Pedestrian Accident in Richfield, UT
If you or your child are involved in a pedestrian accident, try to get to a safe location and call 911 immediately, even if injuries seem minor at first. Some injuries, especially head trauma or internal bleeding, aren't obvious right away. Seek a full medical evaluation as soon as possible and keep records of any treatment received.
If the crash happened near a school bus stop or on a route children regularly walk, consider reaching out to the local school district to flag visibility or safety concerns at that location. Parents in Richfield may also want to talk with kids about waiting in visible, well-lit areas and making eye contact with drivers before crossing, particularly during darker months when fog and low light are more common.
