Frequently Asked Questions
How do weather and road conditions affect crash risk?
Wet pavement, poor visibility, and uneven road surfaces can all make it harder for drivers to stop in time or keep control of their vehicle, especially on busy interstates like I-95.
What should I do right after a car accident?
Move to a safe spot if possible, call 911, check for injuries, and exchange information with other drivers involved. Waiting for police or EMS to arrive and documenting the scene is important even if the damage looks minor.
Where do most traffic crashes happen?
A large share of crashes occur on highways and interstates during peak travel times, usually tied to congestion, sudden lane changes, or stop-and-go traffic.
What to Do After a Car Accident in Richmond, VA
If you're involved in a crash on a highway in Richmond, try to get your vehicle to the shoulder if it's safe to move. Turn on hazard lights and stay inside the vehicle if traffic is still passing close by. Even if you feel fine, it's worth getting checked by a medical professional, since some injuries from a crash don't show symptoms right away. Keep a record of what responders tell you, get a copy of the police report once it's available, and follow up with your insurance company promptly to start the claims process.
