Frequently Asked Questions
What usually causes motorcycle crashes?
Speeding, impaired riding, failure to stop for signals, and drivers in other vehicles not noticing a motorcycle in time are among the most frequent factors reported in crash investigations.
Why do motorcycle crashes tend to cause more serious injuries than car crashes?
A motorcycle offers no outer shell, airbags, or seatbelts, so a rider absorbs the impact directly. Even a low-speed loss of control can cause serious harm.
How do left-turning vehicles cause collisions with motorcycles?
Drivers turning left at intersections sometimes misjudge a motorcycle's speed or distance, or simply don't see it, and turn into its path. This is one of the most common ways car-motorcycle crashes happen.
What can drivers do to spot motorcycles more easily?
Checking mirrors and blind spots twice, allowing extra following distance, and scanning intersections carefully before turning can help drivers notice a motorcycle in time to react.
What to Do After a Motorcycle Crash in Riverview, MI
If you witness or are involved in a motorcycle crash, call 911 right away and avoid moving an injured rider unless there is immediate danger, such as fire or oncoming traffic. Even if injuries seem minor, a medical evaluation is important, since some injuries from a motorcycle crash don't show symptoms right away. Get the names and contact information of any witnesses, and request a copy of the police report once it's available. If the crash involved a chase or other unusual circumstances, that report may take longer to finalize while investigators complete their review.
