Frequently Asked Questions
What should I do right after a car accident?
Move to a safe spot if possible, call 911, and exchange insurance and contact information with the other driver. Take photos of the vehicles and the scene if you're able, and avoid discussing fault before officers arrive.
Where do most traffic crashes happen?
Many collisions occur at intersections or where two roads of different speeds and traffic patterns meet, similar to the junction involved here. Rural highways with cross traffic from side roads can be particularly tricky for drivers judging gaps and speeds.
What injuries are common after a two-vehicle crash?
Whiplash, bruising from seatbelts, and head or chest injuries from striking the interior of the vehicle are frequent outcomes, even in crashes that don't appear severe at first glance. Some injuries, like concussions or soft-tissue damage, don't show symptoms right away.
What to Do After a Car Accident in Rochester, MN
If you're involved in a crash in Rochester, start with safety: check on everyone involved and call for medical help if needed, even for injuries that seem minor at first. Minnesota law requires drivers to report crashes involving injury or significant vehicle damage, so make sure law enforcement is notified if they aren't already on scene.
Afterward, see a doctor promptly, even if you feel okay. Adrenaline can mask pain for hours or days, and having a medical record close to the time of the crash matters if symptoms develop later. Keep copies of any citations, medical records, and repair estimates, and follow up with your insurance company once you've had time to assess the damage and your injuries.
