Why Rollover Crashes Often Lead to Severe or Fatal Injuries
Rollover crashes are among the most serious types of vehicle accidents. When a vehicle strikes a fixed object, such as a light pole, the force of impact can cause it to tip or flip, especially at higher speeds. Once a vehicle rolls onto its side or roof, the risk of severe injury increases significantly.
Occupants may become trapped inside due to crushed doors or roof damage. Emergency crews often need specialized equipment to safely remove people from the vehicle. Injuries in rollover crashes can include head trauma, internal injuries, and fractures. Late-night driving hours, reduced visibility, and lighter traffic can sometimes contribute to higher speeds, which may increase crash severity. Vehicle safety features such as seat belts and side-curtain airbags are designed to reduce harm, but rollover incidents often remain especially dangerous due to the violent forces involved.
