Pedestrian Risks on Multi-Lane Roadways
Arterial roads near Independence Boulevard often carry steady traffic throughout the day and into the evening. When a crash occurs along these routes, traffic flow may slow or stop as crews secure the scene.
Pedestrians crossing multi-lane roads can face greater risks due to the number of vehicles traveling in different directions. Drivers may have limited time to react, especially if another vehicle blocks the view of someone in the roadway. At night, reduced lighting can make it harder for drivers to see pedestrians clearly.
When a pedestrian is struck on a busy roadway, other nearby vehicles may not be able to stop in time. Traffic speed, lane layout, and visibility conditions can influence how these incidents occur on larger suburban corridors.
