Saline Co., KS (March 2, 2026) – A woman was hospitalized Sunday afternoon, March 1, after a three-vehicle chain-reaction crash on I-70 near Salina.
The collision occurred just before 1:30 p.m. at mile marker 250.7, about two miles northwest of the city. According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a 2014 Jeep Cherokee was merging westbound onto I-70 from northbound I-135 when the driver lost control on the ramp.
The loss of control led to a chain-reaction crash involving two additional vehicles. One woman was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Authorities have not released her identity or provided further details about her condition.
The incident remains under investigation. Our thoughts are with the injured woman as she continues to recover.
Why Do Merging Areas See Chain-Reaction Crashes?
Highway merge points can create sudden changes in speed and spacing between vehicles. Drivers entering the interstate must adjust to faster-moving traffic while maintaining control of their vehicles.
If a vehicle loses control on a ramp, nearby drivers may have little time to react. Quick braking or swerving can trigger secondary collisions involving multiple cars.
Road design, traffic volume, and weather conditions can also influence how safely vehicles merge. Staying alert and allowing enough space between vehicles can help reduce the risk of multi-vehicle crashes in these areas.
