San Clemente, CA (January 23, 2026) – A collision involving a black Mercedes SUV and a white box truck caused injuries Friday morning on southbound I-5 near the Cristianitos Rd area. The crash occurred shortly before 8:00 a.m., resulting in blocked lanes and a coordinated emergency response.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the two vehicles were found disabled in the slow lane, creating a significant traffic hazard. Fire crews from Camp Pendleton were notified and assisted at the scene, while CHP confirmed the presence of injuries and updated the incident accordingly.
One report indicated that the driver of the Mercedes may have been involved in a verbal altercation with the semi-truck driver following the crash. The nature of the injuries sustained has not yet been released, though medical aid was requested, and responders worked swiftly to treat those involved.
Towing services were arranged for both the black Mercedes and the box truck. Road One towing responded to assist with clearing the vehicles from the highway.
