San Diego, CA (January 9, 2026) – An accident involving a pedestrian and a vehicle occurred Friday night on Campus Point Dr, resulting in major trauma injuries and emergency transport to a local hospital.
The incident was reported at approximately 8:41 p.m. near the UC San Diego medical campus. According to dispatch communications, a 52-year-old man was struck by a vehicle traveling around 20 miles per hour. Witnesses stated the man was knocked onto the hood of the vehicle and then fell back to the ground.
UC San Diego Fire Department units, including Engine 8 and Medic 417, responded to the scene and provided care to the injured pedestrian. The man, who was described as heavily intoxicated at the time of the collision, suffered a laceration to the back of his head, along with back, neck, and head pain. He was placed in spinal precautions, and bleeding control measures were initiated on site.
Medics reported that the man was alert to verbal commands but lethargic and unable to recall the incident. His blood pressure was dangerously low at 76/42, prompting urgent transport. Paramedics established IV access and arrived at the UCSD emergency facility within minutes.
The circumstances leading to the crash are under investigation. Authorities have not released additional details about the vehicle or driver involved.
