San Diego, CA (January 26, 2026) – A 13-year-old boy was seriously injured on January 25 after being struck by a van while riding an electric bike on Carmel Mountain Rd in San Diego. Emergency crews with Medic 42 responded to the scene and classified the incident as a major pediatric trauma.
According to reports, the teen was riding in the roadway when he was hit from behind by a van traveling at approximately 25 to 30 mph. The collision caused an ejection from the bike and resulted in visible damage to the van’s front quarter panel and headlight. Authorities noted the child was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and sustained a forehead contusion along with pain on the left side of his head.
When paramedics arrived, the boy was alert but disoriented and repeatedly asked the same questions, unable to recall the incident or provide key information. He was stabilized on scene and later transported to Rady Children’s Hospital as a major trauma patient. His mother was contacted and arrived shortly after the initial response.
We send our thoughts to the injured teen and hope for a full and swift recovery.
