San Diego, CA (January 13, 2026) – A rear-end collision near Fifth Ave on January 12 left three individuals injured and led to a multi-agency medical response, according to emergency communications. The crash involved two vehicles and occurred at a speed of approximately 40 mph, prompting trauma evaluations for all occupants involved.
Two of the injured were in the same vehicle — a woman riding in the front passenger seat and her husband seated in the back. The female patient, who had her seatbelt on, reported abdominal pain and nausea likely caused by the seatbelt’s force during the impact. Her husband, a 63-year-old man, complained of neck and back pain and was placed in a cervical collar. Both were transported by UCSD Medic 23 to a local hospital for further treatment.
The third individual, a man who was driving the pickup truck that rear-ended the family’s vehicle, also sustained neck and back pain. He was evaluated at the scene and later transported to Scripps Mercy Hospital by Medic 417 for precautionary care. All patients were alert, wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash, and able to walk with assistance. There were no signs of major trauma, though responders noted underlying health conditions in the two older passengers.
Authorities have not released the identities of those involved. The collision remains under investigation as officials work to determine whether any contributing factors, such as distraction or following distance, played a role.
We send our support to all three individuals injured in this crash and wish them a full and timely recovery.
