What Is Reviewed After a Crash Involving a Vehicle on the Interstate Shoulder?

A vehicle stopped on the shoulder of an interstate can face significant risks because nearby traffic continues moving at highway speeds. During a review of this type of crash, investigators may examine roadway markings, vehicle damage, debris patterns, lighting conditions, and the position of each vehicle after the impact. Camera footage and witness statements may also help clarify the sequence of events.

Other details may include whether the stopped vehicle was visible to approaching drivers, the condition of the roadway, and any factors that could have contributed to the collision. Tire marks and other physical evidence can help show how the crash developed. These findings provide a clearer understanding of the incident as additional facts become available.
