SAN JOSE, Santa Clara County, Calif., Oct. 31, 2026 — A two-vehicle crash sent one person to the hospital late on Friday night, October 30, on southbound US-101 just south of the Oakland Road on-ramp in San Jose.
The California Highway Patrol said a gray Tesla and a blue Honda collided in the lanes of southbound US-101 near Oakland Road. Initial radio traffic described the vehicles as dark-colored sedans before responding units arrived and identified them. The crash blocked the second and third lanes, and CHP units requested an ambulance for an injury at the scene.
The Tesla reportedly suffered damage to its left rear axle, while the Honda sustained major front-end damage. A small fire broke out near the Honda shortly after the collision, briefly stopping all traffic in the area before crews got it under control. Tow trucks were called to remove both vehicles.
No arrests or citations had been announced as of Saturday morning. Lanes that had been shut down were reopened by around 1 a.m., and road flares placed at the scene were expected to clear with traffic. The CHP has not released the extent of the injury or said what led to the crash, and the investigation remains open.
We hope everyone who was hurt makes a full and speedy recovery.

Frequently Asked Questions
Where do most traffic accidents happen?
Many serious crashes occur on highways and freeways, especially at on-ramps, merge points, and areas with heavy nighttime traffic, where sudden lane changes and reduced visibility raise the risk of collisions.
How can drivers lower their chances of being in a crash?
Keeping a safe following distance, slowing down in congested or poorly lit areas, and staying alert near highway entrances and exits can help drivers react in time to avoid a collision.
What injuries are common in two-vehicle highway crashes?
Occupants can suffer whiplash, head and neck injuries, broken bones, or internal injuries, depending on the speed and angle of impact. Severity can range from minor to life-threatening.
What usually causes crashes like this one?
Common causes include following too closely, distracted driving, poor visibility at night, and misjudging the speed of merging traffic, though the specific cause of any crash is determined only after investigators review the evidence.
