SAN RAFAEL, Marin County, Calif., Oct. 31, 2026 — Two vehicles collided on Wednesday afternoon, October 28, on northbound US-101 at the Central San Rafael off-ramp, leaving one vehicle on its side and at least one person with minor injuries, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The CHP said a white Subaru Crosstrek and another vehicle collided around 4:54 p.m. near the off-ramp. One of the vehicles, described in dispatch logs as a blue Nissan SUV, ended up on its side, according to the agency's traffic log. The Subaru reportedly blocked the number one lane, while the other vehicle blocked the middle of the off-ramp, slowing traffic in the area.
Dispatch records show a report that a person was trapped inside one of the vehicles, and bystanders stopped to help before emergency crews arrived. An ambulance was requested for at least one injury. The CHP later classified the crash as a minor injury collision involving two vehicles, with both parties out of their vehicles by around 5 p.m.
Crews shut down the first and second lanes of the off-ramp while the overturned SUV was cleared. A tow truck was called to remove the vehicles from the roadway. The CHP has not released further details on what led to the crash, and the cause remains under investigation.
We hope those who were hurt recover fully and quickly.

Frequently Asked Questions
What steps should a driver take after a rollover or multi-vehicle crash?
Drivers should move to a safe location if possible, check for injuries, call 911, and wait for law enforcement to document the scene before leaving.
What injuries are common in rollover crashes?
People involved in rollover crashes frequently suffer head, neck and back injuries, along with cuts and bruises from being thrown against the roof or windows of the vehicle.
What typically causes crashes like this one?
Common causes include unsafe lane changes, following too closely, distracted driving and misjudging speed near ramps and merge points, though the specific cause here has not been confirmed.
Does speed make a difference in how severe a crash is?
Yes. Higher speeds give drivers less time to react and increase the force involved in a collision, which can turn a minor crash into one with serious injuries.
