Potter Twp., PA (May 22, 2026) – Three people were injured on Thursday afternoon, May 21, in a four-vehicle accident involving a Penns Valley school bus in Potter Township.
The collision happened at about 3:08 p.m. on State Route 45 near Luse Road. Police said a 17-year-old girl from Gregg Township rear-ended a Jeep Renegade while traveling east.
The Jeep was pushed into the school bus, which had five children on board. A 10-year-old girl on the bus and the 63-year-old Jeep driver were taken to Mount Nittany Medical Center with minor injuries.
The teen driver continued east and then hit a 2022 Ford Edge. She was also taken to Mount Nittany Medical Center with minor injuries. The school bus driver and the people in the Ford Edge were not hurt.
The Jeep and the teen’s Volvo were towed, and traffic was restricted for nearly three hours. The wreck remains under review, and the teen driver was expected to be cited for following too closely.
We hope all three people hurt recover quickly.
Why School Bus Accidents Can Require Careful Review
School bus accidents can raise added concern because children may be on board and seated in different parts of the bus. Even when injuries are described as minor, medical checks can help confirm whether a child has soreness, bruising, or pain that appears later.
Multi-vehicle crashes may involve several points of contact, which can make the review more detailed. Investigators may look at the following: distance, traffic speed, lane position, braking, and vehicle damage. Seat placement, passenger movement, and the size difference between vehicles may also affect how people are hurt. Road restrictions after these crashes usually give crews time to remove damaged vehicles and reopen lanes safely.
