How Multi-Vehicle Crashes Often Affect Traffic Flow on Highways
Crashes involving several vehicles can quickly disrupt traffic, especially on highways with limited access points. When lanes are blocked, even temporarily, backups can stretch for miles and lead to delays for commuters and commercial drivers.
Large vehicles like semi-trucks can make these situations more complex. Their size and weight often require additional time to clear from the roadway, particularly if cargo is involved or if multiple cars are damaged around them.
Detours are usually set up to help redirect traffic, but they can add travel time and confusion for drivers unfamiliar with the area. Road crews typically work to reopen at least part of the roadway as soon as it is safe, though full access may take longer depending on the severity of the crash.
