Safety Considerations for Electric Scooter Riders

Electric scooters provide a convenient way to travel short distances, but riders face greater exposure than people inside enclosed vehicles. Wearing protective equipment, following traffic rules, and staying visible can help reduce the risk of serious harm.

When scooter accidents occur, investigators may review traffic signals, vehicle movements, roadway conditions, and rider actions. Helmet use, visibility, and intersection design may also be considered. Drivers sharing the road with scooters and other small vehicles must remain alert, especially at intersections where multiple travel paths cross. These factors can help explain how a collision occurred and identify ways to improve roadway safety.
