Why Scooter Riders Can Face Higher Risks in Traffic Accidents
Scooter riders have less protection than people inside passenger vehicles, which can increase the chance of serious injuries during a collision. Without a surrounding vehicle frame, riders are more exposed to direct impacts and may be affected by roadway conditions, vehicle size differences, and traffic speed.
Accidents involving scooters require careful review of factors such as visibility, lane position, traffic movement, and the actions of everyone involved. Emergency response can be especially important after these crashes because some injuries may require immediate medical attention. Road design, lighting, and driver awareness can also affect safety for smaller vehicles sharing the roadway.
