What Factors Can Lead to Median Crossovers on High-Speed Highways?
Median crossover crashes on interstates often occur when a large vehicle leaves its lane and enters opposing traffic. These incidents can happen for a variety of reasons, including driver fatigue, mechanical issues, or sudden loss of vehicle control.
Highway speeds can make these situations especially dangerous because drivers in both directions may have limited time to react. When a heavy truck crosses into opposing lanes, the size and weight difference between vehicles can increase the severity of the crash.
After serious interstate collisions, investigators often examine roadway markings, vehicle data, and mechanical conditions. These details can help determine how and why a vehicle left its intended direction of travel.
