Colleton County, SC (June 9, 2026) – Four people were injured on Monday morning, June 8, after a Chevrolet Tahoe hit the rear of a semi-truck on southbound Interstate 95 near the 59-mile marker.
The collision happened around 7:15 a.m. The Tahoe became lodged beneath a flatbed trailer, leaving two adults in the front seats trapped inside.
Emergency units used rescue tools to free the two adults. A child in the back seat was able to get out of the Tahoe and had non-life-threatening injuries.
The Tahoe driver had multiple injuries and was brought to MUSC in Charleston. The child was also brought there for treatment.
The front-seat passenger had minor injuries and was brought to a hospital in Walterboro. The truck driver reported non-life-threatening injuries and declined hospital care.
Southbound traffic on Interstate 95 was reduced to one lane for about an hour after the wreck.
The accident remains under review as investigators gather more details. We hope all four people hurt continue to recover.
Rear-End Truck Crashes Can Trap Front-Seat Occupants
Rear-end crashes involving large trucks can become serious when a smaller vehicle slides beneath or into the back of a trailer. The front of the passenger vehicle may absorb much of the force, leaving people in the front seats at greater risk.
When doors or the dashboard shift inward, occupants may not be able to get out without help. Rescue work may take longer if the vehicle is pinned beneath the trailer or if access points are blocked.
These crashes may also affect traffic, as damaged vehicles often remain in the travel lanes until they can be safely removed. Early reports may focus on who was trapped, which lanes were closed, and where each injured person received care.
